Our Commercial Space team is positioned to contribute to the future of space exploration as we build partnerships with established leaders in Commercial Space. The Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) Systems Engineer will have the opportunity to play in a role in various commercial space endeavors.

Responsibilities

The Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) Systems Engineer - Commercial Space will:

  • Provide Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) expertise in the training of NASA and Barrios employees.
  • Work closely with Gateway stakeholders to maintain common MBSE standards and guidelines in their systems models.
  • Aid in the development of systems models for the Gateway program to ensure consistency across the program.
  • Apply systems engineering principles and techniques to requirements validation, product development, product integration, requirements verification, system validation, and hardware/software product deployment.
  • Build an understanding of the product life cycle to perform concept trade studies, requirements management, test & verification, and modeling and analysis.
  • Investigate process improvement initiatives that promote the progression of Systems Engineering & Integration (SE&I) expertise within a more digitized SE&I environment.
  • Establish working relationships with customer counterparts, requirement owners, and commercial teammates’ key personnel to promote SE&I functions.
  • Support SE&I activities such as requirements identification, development, verification, and tracking
  • Develop processes and strategies to support cross-functional teams supporting integration, analysis, and testing.
  • Provide technical systems knowledge during major project milestones and project reviews.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • BS Degree in Engineering from an accredited Engineering school, plus ten (10) years of appropriate work experience

- OR -

  • BS Degree in Engineering from an accredited Engineering school, plus fifteen (15) years of appropriate work experience.

- OR -

  • BS Degree in Engineering from an accredited Engineering school, plus twenty (20) years of appropriate work experience.

 

  • Working experience using MagicDraw, or equivalent industry standard MBSE tools, to create and manage systems models.
  • Applied knowledge of product life cycle development, sound systems engineering & integration principles, and strong working knowledge of associated engineering disciplines.
  • Applied working knowledge of systems engineering practices associated with the definition, design, development, verification, implementation, testing, integration, and validation of complex systems.
  • Excellent communication skills (in both written and verbal), integration, coordination and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with customers and stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint).

 Preferences:

  • Master of Science degree in Systems Engineering or equivalent engineering discipline from an accredited engineering school.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership in the application of MBSE principles.
  • Experience requirements management tools, such as DOORS Next Generation (DNG).
  • Experience with multiple MBSE software platforms.
  • Working experience with Human Space Exploration programs (Gateway, ISS, Orion, etc.).
  • INCOSE System Engineering Professional Certification.

Work Location:

  • Ideally, you will be located in the Houston, TX area to support onsite operations.  That said, Barrios strives to maintain a flexible, and diverse working environment for our people.   • Must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.

  • Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.
  • Must be able to work in a team atmosphere.

  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
  • This position may require some commuting and traveling to other installations as needed.
