Our long-term client relationship with Boeing Corporation has led to a need for a Software Lab Systems Engineer on the Boeing Engineering, Technical, and Services (BETS) contract in Huntsville, AL.

Responsibilities

The Software Lab Systems Engineer will:

  • Support set up and system configuration to be compliant of NIST and Program required IT Security controls of lab system utilized by ISS SW team. Support execution of mandatory monthly scans, post scan updates to system as defined by scan results, as well as patches for off cycle NASA Security Operations Center (SOC) - Mitigation Action Requirement (MAR) notifications.
  • Track and enter data into NASA's Risk Information Security Compliance System (RISCS) tool for IT security control verification and security plan maintenance.
  • Update and audit Process Documentation.
  • Support development of test procedures, execute tests during informal and formal testing, and develop/release test reports, as required.
  • Participate in and conduct peer reviews of release products, as required. Document discrepancies and problems.
  • Support and participate in Test Open Records Review (TORRs) and Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs), as required.
  • Support testing of the International Space Station (ISS) Vehicle and lab operations.
  • Assist in performing periodic system level backups of lab systems.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:  

  • BS/BA degree in a related field from an accredited college or university, plus two (2) years of experience, or any equivalent combination of education/experience.
    - OR -

 

  • BS/BA degree in a related field from an accredited college or university, plus five (5) years of experience, or any equivalent combination of education/experience.
    - OR -

 

  • BS/BA degree in a related field from an accredited college or university, plus ten (10) years of experience, or any equivalent combination of education/experience.

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:

 

  • Direct software experience or any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of web languages (ex. HTML, CSS, PHP, Java, JavaScript, etc).
  • Working knowledge of Window and UNIX based server and various architectures, their configuration and set up.
  • Working knowledge of Federal NIST and NASA IT Security process of issuance and resolution of Security Operations Center (SOC) - Mitigation Action Requirement (MAR) notification.
  • Experience in establishing and set up of architecture to meet and satisfy NIST controls for compliance to federal regulations, audits, and assessments. Be able to generate and incorporate processes to mitigate/address risks and weaknesses in ISS lab Computer.
  • Management systems through Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&M)s or Risk Based Decision (RBD)s.
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office and UNIX based products.
  • System Admin experience for Windows and Linux systems.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal using the English language.
  • SharePoint development experience.
  • Understanding of software testing and requirements verification. Use of C/C++ or other scripting language.
  • Software test experience and ability to pick up operational knowledge of lab information systems quickly.
  • Process oriented.

 

Essential Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.

  • May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lb.

  • Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical.
  • Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.
  • Must be able to work in a team atmosphere.
  • Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation.
  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
  • This position may require some commuting and traveling to other installations as needed.
