Our long-term client relationship with NASA has led to a need for a Engineering Technologist for supporting the Orion
Crew Survival Systems (OCSS) project. This position is an immediate need. 

 

 

Responsibilities

The Orion Crew Survival System Engineering Technologist will:

Understanding theory and operation of the OCSS hardware

Understanding cleaning requirements

Understanding Maintenance, handling, and safety

Setting up support equipment prior to Test

Assisting the existing OCSS Suit Engineering Technologists during Fitcheck and testing and progressing thru necessary
training to become proficient at Fitchecks/Crew Training events and eventually Orion Vehicle Ingress/Egress Operations

Participating in all pre/post event briefings

Supporting the Crew Survival Equipment lab schedule

Participating and supporting in Suit Test Subject and Crew training exercises

Understanding Ground Support Hardware theory and operation Providing required Work Authorizing Documentation 

Following project documentation and supporting drawing construction including working with OCSS team to ensure
project requirements are achieved  

Support Testing of OCSS hardware including Orion Crew Survival Suit, Emergency Breathing Oxygen Systems, Pressure
Systems, Survival Equipment, etc

Support buildup of Ground Service Equipment Buildup and periodic re-calibration
Assist project management and Project Engineers with OCSS Qualification testing, Pre-Delivery/Installation Acceptance
Testing 

Work in a team environment and report to project management to provide status on progress and issues related to
support of the OCSS NASA customer

Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Typically requires a HS diploma and 5 years of experience or BS in Engineering Technology or related field
  • Experience with reviewing and following requirements documents including functional requirements and verification success criteria
  • Experience with the assembly, verification, testing, and operation of Space system hardware. Prior experience in
    pressure, oxygen systems, suit systems would be considered a plus
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the space hardware field including interpreting engineering drawings and sketches, JSC Electronic Document System and software and tools
  • Ability to support long (all day) training events with long periods of time on feet and moderate lifting of hardware.
    Ability to physically meet the JSC Job Related Medical Physical Pressure Suit Technician/Hazardous Duty Launch and Landing Requirements
  • Ability to prepare written documents and to verbally present at various meetings
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products
  • Experience with NASA flight processes including Class I/II/III hardware
  • Familiar with Johnson Space Center (JSC) organizations, processes, and procedures

 

Preferred Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Previous experience in assembly and test of spaceflight hardware and Spacesuit systems
  • Familiarity with machine shop techniques and processing hardware through the manufacturing process
  • Ability to perform hands on test and documentation including Work Authorizing Documents/Test Preparation sheets.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation

  • May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs

  • Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical
  • Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required
  • Must be able to work in a team atmosphere
  • Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation
  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others
  • This position may require some commuting and traveling to other installations as needed
