We are seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to lead supplier quality assurance, procurement quality oversight, and supplier performance management activities in a dynamic aerospace environment. This role is responsible for ensuring suppliers meet contractual, regulatory, and quality requirements while supporting a reliable, compliant, and high-performing supply chain. The ideal candidate combines technical expertise, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to operational excellence and continuous improvement.

 

Responsibilities

The Quality Engineer will:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain supplier quality processes in accordance with AS9100 standards, contractual obligations, customer requirements, and company policies.
  • Manage supplier qualification, approval, and ongoing performance monitoring activities, including maintenance of the Approved Supplier List (ASL).
  • Define, review, and approve quality flow-down requirements for purchased products and services.
  • Conduct supplier audits, assessments, and surveillance activities to verify compliance with quality, technical, and contractual requirements.
  • Perform source inspections and verification activities for purchased products, materials, and services.
  • Review supplier documentation, certifications, inspection records, and quality data to ensure compliance with applicable requirements.
  • Establish and monitor supplier quality performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Partner with suppliers to strengthen quality systems, improve performance, and drive corrective and preventive actions.
  • Investigate supplier-related quality issues and coordinate containment, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
  • Manage Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs) and verify effectiveness of corrective actions.
  • Analyze nonconformance trends and supplier performance data to identify risks and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and present supplier quality reports, performance dashboards, and status updates to program and leadership teams.
  • Create and maintain quality procedures, work instructions, and process documentation.
  • Collaborate with procurement, engineering, manufacturing, program management, and quality teams to support program execution and supplier readiness.
  • Support project planning and execution by identifying quality risks, supplier requirements, and mitigation strategies.
  • Communicate supplier performance, quality concerns, and project status to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support strategic quality initiatives and special projects as assigned.
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of quality management systems, processes, and best practices.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, or a related technical discipline, plus ten (10) years of experience in Supplier Quality Engineering, Procurement Quality Engineering, Supplier Management, or a related quality role within aerospace, defense, spaceflight, or other highly regulated industries.
  • Thorough knowledge of AS9100 Quality Management System requirements.
  • Experience conducting supplier audits, assessments, source inspections, and purchased product verification activities.
  • Experience reviewing engineering drawings, specifications, contracts, purchase orders, and technical requirements.
  • Experience managing supplier quality issues, nonconformances, corrective actions, and risk mitigation activities.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA), containment, preventive action, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate quality metrics, performance trends, and statistical data.
  • Experience developing procedures, work instructions, quality plans, and process documentation.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet aggressive deadlines while maintaining high-quality results.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, evolving environments with minimal supervision.
  • Proven problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and a proactive approach to addressing challenges.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • High level of accountability, ownership, and commitment to customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across functions and build productive relationships with internal teams and external suppliers.

Preferences:

  • Experience with AS9102 First Article Inspection (FAI) requirements.
  • Knowledge of NADCAP accreditation processes and special process requirements.
  • Experience supporting Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) activities.
  • Experience with aerospace, human spaceflight, or NASA-related programs.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems used in manufacturing or aerospace environments.
  • Experience with Deltek Costpoint or similar enterprise resource planning systems.
  • Familiarity with statistical process control, advanced quality tools, and supplier development methodologies.
  • Experience leading supplier improvement initiatives and strategic quality programs.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a track record of driving organizational growth and process innovation.
  • Passion for aerospace, space exploration, and mission-focused work.

Essential Requirements 

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.
  • Applicant selected may be subject to government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
  • Work may involve sitting for extended periods.
  • May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lb.
  • Must have sufficient mobility to enter areas of test facilities where necessary.
  • Generally, an office environment but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.
  • Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, fax, etc.)
  • Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical.
  • Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.
  • Must be able to work in a team atmosphere.
  • Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation.
  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
  • This position may require some commuting and traveling to other installations as needed.
